If you haven’t heard yet, Amazon’s massive Prime Day sale is quickly approaching, with two days of massive bargains on electronics, clothing, beauty, and more, kicking off July 12 and going until July 13. But it won’t be the only day this year that Amazon’s planning a massive sale — there’s another one coming up later this year that you’re going to want to mark your calendars, set an alarm, and set some cash aside for. (And no, it’s not Black Friday, though that’s a whole other thing).
According to CNBC, Amazon will be putting on another huge sale event in the fourth quarter of the year, again aimed exclusively at Prime members. It’ll be the first time that Amazon has put on two events like this in the same year.
Per CNBC, the development was noticed when Amazon started sending some of its third-party retailers notices about a “Prime Fall” deal event via Amazon’s internal seller portal. There’s no dates announced yet, but the company invited these sellers to submit “lightening deals” — a.k.a. flash sales — for the sale by July 22. There’s some motivation here for the company to make some money, too (well, more money than it already brings in): The company announced its slowest quarterly revenue growth since 2001 in April.
Prime Day is moving slower than in years past, too, with people ordering less and slower sales growth as a result — and part of it might have to do with Amazon not marketing the event as much on its website, according to CNN. Then again, Prime Day this year is expected to bring in $8.1 billion in gross merchandise volume, which is…not insignificant.
If you haven’t signed up yet for a Prime membership, by the way, you’re going to want to get in on it definitely before the new sale and also well ahead of the July edition. Not only does it give you access to great discounts on everything from household staples to TVs that can save you more than the membership cost, but also Amazon’s Spotify-like library of music and a ton of great shows and movies on Amazon Prime’s streaming service. Start your trial now before Prime Day — or set a reminder to sign up closer to the date so you can snag all the discounts.
